The Folland Gnat T.1 was a two-seat jet trainer developed from the lightweight Gnat fighter, designed to provide advanced training for Royal Air Force pilots transitioning to front-line fast jets. Introduced into RAF service in 1962, the T.1 variant replaced earlier jet trainers such as the de Havilland Vampire T.11, offering higher performance and handling characteristics closer to operational fighters. In 1973, No. 4 Flying Training School at RAF Valley, Anglesey, Wales, operated the Gnat T.1 as part of its advanced training syllabus.
